Bernard
Lietaer is one of the world's leading authorities on complementary
currencies and one of the chief architects of the Euro (the
new common currency of the European Union). A former senior
officer of the Belgian Central Bank and active in the domain
of money systems for 25 years, he authored the landmark book
The Future of Money while a fellow at the Center for
Sustainable Resources at the University of California at Berkeley.
He will share his perspectives on sustainable economics and
his vision for a commodity-based, non-inflationary international
currency he calls the Terra.
"I
propose that we choose to develop money systems that will enable
us to attain sustainability and community healing on a local
and global scale. These objectives are in our grasp within less
than one generation's time. Whether we materialize them or not
will depend on our capacity to cooperate with each other to
consciously reinvent our money."- Bernard Lietaer
